I'll attend the case competition held at Carnegie Mellon University as a member of Georgia Tech OMS team. This is going to be a lot of fun.

Cash Flow

Hi all,

Today's accounting class went thorough how to calculate cash flow. I've heard of the importance of cash flow. I did not know exactly how to calculate cash flow from income statement and balance sheet. So it was very interesting. From cash flow, especially, you can tell where the cash primarily comes from. Some company's net income is high. But that does not mean that their business is going well. Gain from sales of PP&E or issuance of common stock would increase the net income. Increase in account receivable or accrued expense affects cash flow. they are recognized when earned in accouting. However, cash does not flow. You need to look into cash flow to make a judgement.

Today was final career work shop. They put up great sessions. I enjoyed all of 8 sessions. I got a lot out of them.

OBの重要性

OB (Organizational Behavior) のクラスでMotivationのチャプターが先週終わりました。OBのクラスはマネジメントに携わる人にとってはとても重要な学問だと思います。昇進するにつれて実務をすることはなくなるかもしれませんが、OBについては社内外で経営にかかわってくることですので自分が部長クラスそして経営幹部になった時を想定してどういう行動をとるべきかどのように部署を管理していくのか考える訓練をしてます。もちろん人間の心理的な部分は例外もたくさんありますが、実際いろいろの研究がされおり、そのモデルにしたがって企業のシステムを作るというのは非常に有益です。今学んでいることは、価値あることです。内容は日を追って紹介したいと思います。

土曜日の午後学校に勉強しにいったのですが、とても道が混んでいました。アメフトのゲームがあったからです。ノースカロライナ大に勝ちましたね。この間マイアミ大に負けましたがACC優勝できるチャンスあると思います。

Dream the impossible

皆さんこんにちは。今日は溜まっていた洗濯と部屋の掃除、車もきれいにしました。この後、買い物に行く予定です。九月ももうすぐ終わりですね。ミシガンでは今頃もう涼しくて衣替えをしないといけない時期ですが、アトランタではまだ暑いです。MBAが始まって一ヶ月以上たちましたが、勉強大変ですけどとても楽しいです。今学んでいることはどの企業でも部長クラスのなる人なら必ず必要なことだと思います。本当に貴重な経験です。

アメリカのHondaの"Dream the impossible"というドキュメンタリー形式のCMがあるのですけど、このＣＭ結構好きです。人間にはいろいろな可能性があるけど、それを押さえつけてしまっているのはたいてい自分自身の場合が多いのですよね。最初から諦めてしまう。自信または向上心がなくて挑戦を避けてしまう。もちろん知識や努力によって裏付けられたものが必要ですけど。失敗を恐れたらなにもできないですよ。常にリスクはともなうもの。Rejectionも付きものです。人生も同じでしょうね。

Risk and Return

Hi all,

How are you? At today's finance class, we began studying risk and return. This is the part I was really interested in learning, considering the market collapse last year. I would like to know how financial institutions or even financial advisors make a decision on portfolios. This will be a good opportunity.

Exams Back

Hi all,

I got my exams back. I did OK. One thing I notice is that everybody is smart. MBA is not like undergraduate classes. The average score of each exam was higher than I expected.

Things that I'm learning on Finance and Accounting are very interesting. To be a successful manager, these principals are crucial. I am just glad that I have an opportunity to learn them. These are priceless. It's worth every penny.
